Questar III’s Staff Development department offers a New York State Education Department required training program for school bus drivers, monitors and attendants. The training covers mandated topics, including:

  • First Aid basics,
  • Behavior management,
  • car seats,
  • confidentiality,
  • definitions (Part 200),
  • disabilities,
  • evacuation,
  • knowing your bus,
  • liabilities,
  • lift operations,
  • loading and unloading,
  • wheelchair tie downs,
  • protecting yourself and others,
  • roles and responsibilities,
  • rules and regulations,
  • sensitivity, and,
  • universal precautions.

The service offers training for: 1. bus drivers and 2. bus attendants and monitors. 1. Bus driver training: This 30-hour program offers training as mandated by the New York State Education Department. Training includes in-depth study of roles and responsibilities, behavior management, basic First Aid, bus specifics, loading/unloading students, self-protection and evacuation.

It is required that all school bus drivers take this training within the first year of service as a school bus driver. 2. Bus attendant and monitor training: This 10 – hour program offers school bus monitors and attendants training, including roles and responsibilities, behavior management, basic First Aid, bus specifics, loading/unloading students, self-protection and evacuation, as well as other New York State Education Department required topics. Bus attendants and monitors are mandated to take this training within the first year of service as monitors/attendants.
