Product Description

Questar III’s Health, Safety and Risk Management Service offers Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) CPR training covering adult and pediatric heart and choking emergencies. Questar III’s proudly offers both the American Heart Association’s HeartSaver AED/CPR course and the National Safety Council’s AED/CPR which combines hands-on AED instruction with CPR training. Training includes use of an automated external defibrillator combining the latest CPR techniques. These AED/CPR courses are for both the layperson and coaches; and are approved by NYSED. Questar III also offers the advanced professional course, Healthcare Provider, through AHA for nurses and other professional rescuers.

***NEW for 2012*** American Heart Association (AHA) eLearning Courses Questar III is now offering American Heart Association’s eLearning courses: HeartSaver CPR/AED; Health Care Provider and First Aid w/ AED/CPR. These modules are an alternative to classroom training. The new online format provides flexibility where students can learn at their own pace according to their learning styles and schedules. Students complete courses anytime or anywhere with Internet access at their own convenience. The new eLearning modules will provide faster training program implementation for districts and offers an easy alternative for refresher training saving time and money. District staff maintains on-the-job productivity levels by completing the majority of the training online.

NEW eLearning Course Format*
This three-part delivery effectively blends cognitive learning with skills training. Students must complete an in-person “skills session” in addition to online learning.

  • Part 1: online cognitive lessons at own pace
  • Part 2: hands-on skills practice
  • Part 3: hands-on skills testing Parts 2 and 3 take place at a designated time/place as scheduled with Questar III training staff

Questar III’s Health, Safety and Risk Management Service is proud to be the first BOCES to be approved by NYSED to offer the National Safety Council’s (NSC) Advanced First Aid program, Taking Action, for coaches. Our program is accepted and taught under the NYSED requirements. The initial course is 12 hours minimum of instruction, and the refresher course every three years is 5.5 hours. CPR is an additional requirement by NYSED for coaches.Requirements for AED/CPR and First Aid training in school districts Per NYSED and the Public Access Defibrillator law, when schools are in session or are open with a school sponsored event, a minimum of at least one staff person is required to be on hand with current training on AED/CPR. This person must be knowledgeable on how to use the AED and its location within the facility. Athletic coaches are required to have an approved basic CPR/AED course. Effective July1, 2009, NYSED requirements for coaches re-certification follows the requirements set forth by the training provider. Nurses need to have an approved professional rescuer/BLS/Healthcare provider CPR card with AED, which is good for the duration of the issuing card, up to two years. First aid training is required every three years for athletic coaches by an approved provider as designated by NYSED. First aid training is also recommended for district staff including teachers, aides, kitchen staff, bus drivers and maintenance workers.
Cost Methodology

AHA HeartSaver CPR/AED- $45; includes current AHA CPR/AED book required for participants. HeartSaver CPR/AED course is 3.5 hours with eight (8) participants.

AHA CPR for Health Care Provider – $55; includes current AHA CPR book required for participants. Professional Rescuer (BLS) course is 4.5 hours with six (6) participants.

NSC First Aid-Taking Action 12 hour Initial Course – $135; includes current NSC Book, First Aid-Taking Action, required for participants.

NSC First Aid-Taking Action 5.5 hour Refresher Course – $100; includes current NSC Book, First Aid-Taking Action, required for participants.

AHA eLearning Modules – Each attendee will be issued an online key code for access.

  • Online AHA eLearning HeartSaver AED/CPR – $45; include online key code access good for two years
  • Online AHA eLearning CPR for Health Care Provider (BLS) – $55; include online key code access good for two years
  • Online AHA eLearning First Aid w/ AED/CPR – $95; include online key code access good for two years

Training Requirements

The first aid courses require a minimum of four (4) participants and a maximum of twelve (12).

The ratio for instructors/students for CPR classes is 1:6.

For classes of more than six (6), an additional instructor will be required and provided.

A minimum of four (4) is required for attendance.

Large classes can be accommodated with advance notice.

NOTE: For billing purposes, districts will be charged for the number of participants signed up at the time of scheduling.
